Carl Butler-ur. 2.06.1924r Knoxville,Tennessee ;amerykański muzyk country,który udanie asymilował styl honky tonk
w amerykańskiej muzyce country w latach 50-tych.Mimo ,że początkowo
nagrywał solo,to największą popularność zyskał występując razem z żoną
,Pearl.Jego muzyka dojrzewała pod wpływem Roy'a Acuffa.
Rozpoczął karierę jako 12-letni chłopiec śpiewając na potańcówkach.Po zakończeniu II wojny śpiewał z bluegrassowymi zespołami Bailey Brothers i Sauceman Brothers.W 1950r Butler rozpoczął występy w radio Knoxville i podpisał w tym czasie kontrakt płytowy z Capitol Records,nagrywając początkowo bluegrass a póżniej zmienia brzmienie na honky tonk zainspirowany Lefty Frizellem i Hankiem Williamsem,którzy
wtedy brylowali na listach przebojów.Niestety bez większego
powodzenia,stąd jego przenosiny do wytwórni Columbia,gdzie nagrywa solo i
z zespołem Webster Brothers w latach 50-tych.
Mimo,że ciągle nagrywa jego utwory nie trafiają na listy bestsellerów.W końcu jego piosenka "Honky Tonkitis" trafia na 25 miejsce na liście country w 1961r.W następnym roku trafia do Grand Ole Opry,gdzie w występach pomaga mu jego hit "Don't Let Me Cross Over",pierwszy
nagrany w duecie z żoną,który spędza trzy miesiące na szczycie listy
country.Carl i Pearl jako duet wprowadzają w latach 60-tych wiele hitów
na listy country minn."Too Late to Try Again" , "Loving Arms" , "I'm Hanging Up the Phone".
Butlerowie wprowadzili na szerokie wody Dolly Parton,przyszłą gwiazdę country,współpracując z nią pod koniec lat 50-tych.Kontynuowali nagrania dla Columbia w latach 70-tych,a także Chart i CMH Records.Wycofują się z czynnego życia muzycznego w latach 80-tych.Carl próbował powrócić na scenę muzyczną w 1990r pośmierci żony,ale bez powodzenia.Zmarł 4 września 1992r w Franklin, Tennessee.
