Skomponował także i zaaranżował niewymienioną w czołówce muzykę do sekwencji w Wenecji we Włoszech w This is Cinerama (1952). Pod koniec lat pięćdziesiątych Sawtell nawiązał współpracę z innym kompozytorem filmowym Bertem Shefterem i wspólnie wyprodukowali muzykę do wielu filmów, w tym do klasycznych filmów science fiction i horrorów, takich jak Kronos, It! The Terror from Beyond Space, Return of the Fly, The Lost World, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (we współpracy z producentem Irwinem Allenem) i Jack the Giant Killer w 1962 roku.
W 1965 roku skomponowali muzykę dla reżysera Russa Meyera, jak na przykład kultowy klasyk Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! i Motorpsycho. Ostatnia ścieżka dźwiękowa, jaką stworzyli, pochodziła z meksykańskiego filmu Emiliano Zapata z 1970 roku, na krótko przed śmiercią Sawtella. Sawtell miał dom w pobliżu Demuth Park w Palm Springs w Kalifornii. Zmarł w 1971 roku i został pochowany na cmentarzu Forest Lawn Memorial Park w Glendale w Kalifornii.
