Po utworzeniu w 1955 roku przez Atlantic Records, wytwórnia miała swój pierwszy hit z „Week End” Kingsmen . W 1990 roku Atlantic odnowił wytwórnię jako EastWest Records America, mianując Sylvię Rhone na stanowisko prezesa i dyrektora generalnego. Pod przywództwem Rhone, EastWest Records America odniosło ogromny sukces z kilkoma artystami multiplatynowymi, takimi jak En Vogue, Pantera, Adina Howard, Gerald Levert, AC/DC, The Rembrandts, Dream Theater, Missy Elliott i MC Lyte. Brytyjscy artyści z wytwórni EastWest to The Beloved, Tanita Tikaram, Chris Rea,Billy Mackenzie (jako współpracownicy) i Simply Red.
EastWest dystrybuował również takie wytwórnie jak Interscope Records, Motor Jams Records, Mecca Don Records i The Gold Mind Inc. W 2005 roku WMG reaktywowało wytwórnię East West, która zajmowała się marketingiem i dystrybucją muzyki rockowej.East West działało pod szyldem Alternative Distribution Alliance Warnera, następcy Independent Label Group.
East West Records zostało reaktywowane w Wielkiej Brytanii w 2014 roku pod kierownictwem Maxa Lousady, ówczesnego prezesa i dyrektora generalnego Warner Music UK. W 2024 r. Eric Wong został mianowany prezesem East West Records i szefem globalnego A&R w Warner Recorded Music, podlegając bezpośrednio dyrektorowi generalnemu WMG, Robertowi Kyncl. Wong kieruje East West Records, znaną marką w historii WMG, która obecnie pełni rolę łącznika w globalnym ekosystemie firmy - identyfikując lokalne talenty o globalnym potencjale i przyspieszając ich drogę do globalnego sukcesu.
