Paul Williams

Ur. 19.09.1940 r. w Omaha w stanie Nebraska. Zdobytą w latach 70-tych kompozytorską popularność ugruntował w późniejszym okresie jako wokalista i twórca muzyki filmowej. Obdarzony niepozornym wzrostem, debiutował jako kaskader i aktor w dziecięcych filmach „The Loved One" (z 1964 r.) i „The Chase" (z 1965 r.). Jako autor piosenek zdobył uznanie skomponowanymi wraz z Rogerem Nicholsem przebojami duetu The Carpenters „We've Only Just Begun" i „Rainy Days And Mondays", a także utworami spopularyzowanymi przez Helen Reddy („You And Me Against The World") i grupę Three Dog Night („Just An Old Fashioned Love Song").

 Pierwszy solowy album nagrał w 1970 r. dla wytwórni Reprise, a drugi w rok później dla A&M. Obie płyty przeszły bez echa, za to powodzeniem cieszyły się występy piosenkarza w nocnych klubach. Jako kompozytor filmowy zadebiutował w 1974 r. muzyką do „Phantom Ol" The Paradise" („Upiór w raju") Briana De Palmy, pastiszu „Upiora w operze", w którym wystąpił też w głównej roli. W 1976 r. napisał muzykę do „A Star Is Born" Franka Picrsona, z Barbrą Streisand i Krisem Kristoffersonem. 

Największe uznanie zdobyła ilustracja muzyczna do „Bugsy Malone" Alana Parkera (z 1976 r.), gangsterskiej groteski, w której wszystkie role odtwarzali dziecięcy aktorzy (m.in. Jodie Foster). Z późniejszych dokonań Williamsa warto wymienić muzykę do filmów „The End" (czarnej komedii Burta Reynoldsa z 1977 r.) i „The Muppet Movie" („Mappety jadą do Hollywood", reż. James Frawley / 1979 r,).
