W 1969 r. stworzył żeńskie trio wokalne Love Unlimited, w którego skład weszły Diana Taylor, Glodean James (jego przyszła żona) i jej siostra Linda. Równoległym przedsięwzięciem White'a była czterdziestoosobowa Love Unlimited Orchestra, mająca akompaniować tercetowi i założycielowi, pełniącemu role dyrygenta, kompozytora i aranżera. Sukces nagranego w 1972 r. singla Love Unlimited, „Walkin' In The Rain With The One I Love", na którym White wykonywał liryczną, imitującą telefoniczną rozmowę melorecytację, zachęcił muzyka .do powrotu do wokalizy.
Przebojami stały się nagrane w latach 1973-1974 tematy „I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby", „Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up", „Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe" i „You're The First, The Last, My Everything". We wszystkich obowiązywała ta sama formuła - zrelaksowane, łączące pop i soul brzmienie, eksponujące nastrojowe aranżacje i gardłowe melodeklamacje lidera. Sentymentalizm muzyki i seksualizm tekstów zbliżył się szybko do granic autoparodii, jednak pomimo spadku popularności nagrań., White pozostawał do końca lat 70-tych estradowym idolem.
Ostatnim przebojem muzyka była wersja tematu Billy'ego Joela „Just The Way You Are" z 1978 r. Po serii nagrań z Glodean White, piosenkarz powrócił do brytyjskiej Top 20 w 1987 r. utworem „Sho' You Right", nawiązującym w tekście do krytycznych ocen jego sporej tuszy. Rozchodzące się w wielomilionowych nakładach nagrania White'a z okresu jego szczytowej kariery wywarły duży wpływ na późniejsze pokolenie wykonawców.
W 1992 r. artysta nagrał w duecie ze swoją wierną admiratorką Lisą Stansfield wersję jej przeboju „All Around The World", która nie dorównała jednak popularnością oryginałowi. Rok później zaproponował swoje całkowicie autorskie dzieło Love Is The Icon.
White przez wiele lat cierpiał na nadciśnienie tętnicze i cukrzycę. Schorzenia te doprowadziły go do niewydolności nerek we wrześniu 2002r. W maju 2003 przeszedł udar mózgu . Zmarł dwa miesiące przed 59. urodzinami, w Cedars-Sinai Medical Center w West Hollywood.
