W 1959 roku zespół wydaje debiutancki singiel "Lover Boy", a ich innym i jedynym zarejestrowanym nagraniem był cover Buddy Knoxa "Party Doll" wydany dla wytwórni Decca w 1963 roku. Dove opuszcza Belltones wkrótce potem, i osiedla w Nashville.Tam podpisał kontrakt z wytwórnią Diamond i wydał swój pierwszy solowy singiel "Sweeter Than Sugar". Ale pobyt na listach przebojów zapewnił mu singiel "Say You" w 1964r. Piosenka wdarła się do Top 20 i rozpoczęła długą serię jego przebojów.W 1965 roku , Dove wprowadził pięć singli na listę Billboardu. Powtórzył ten wyczyn w 1966 roku, ale w 1967r po występie w Ed Sullivan Show ,gwiazda Dove zaczęła blednąć.
Zrobił sobie przerwę, ale powrócił w 1971r z nowym kontraktem z Decca. Tym razem, Dove wylansował dwa niewielkie hity na listach przebojów "Kiss the Hurt Away" (1972) i "Lilacs in Winter" (1973).Następnie podpisał kontrakt z Melodyland Records w 1975 roku i miał dwa hity.
Wraz z pojawieniem się oldies radio w latach 80-tych, jego gwiazda ponownie zabłysła, a wokalista konsekwentnie koncertował . Nawet ponownie podpisał kontrakt z Diamond w 1987 roku i miał jeden szlagier na listach przebojów z "Rise and Shine".
Dove kontynuje występy w Baltimore i ogólnokrajowej scenie w latach 90-tych i na początku 2000-nych. Wydano liczne kompilacje jego przebojów.
