W końcu lat 50-tych Hazlewood nagrał serię instrumentalnych płyt z Duane Eddy dla Jamie Rec.[grając na gitarze basowej] z których większość stała się przebojami.Ostatecznie Hazlewood przenosi się do Kalifornii ,gdzie zyskuje popularność dzięki hitom Nancy Sinatra dla Reprise .To doprowadziło go do założenia własnej wytwórni LHI [Lee Hazlewood Industries].Początkowo dystrybucję płyt powierzono Decca,póżniej przekazano ABC Rec.
Największą sławę dla LHI zdobył album "Safe at Home" nagrany przez International Submarine Band.Mimo,że nie osiągnął wysokiej sprzedaży-stał się punktem zwrotnym dla country rocka.Członkiem tego zespołu był minn. Gram Parsons,póżniej w Byrds i Flying Burrito Brothers.
