Od 1919r występuje razem z renomowanymi orkiestrami Henry Halsteada i Gusa Arnheima w Kalifornii.W latach 20-tych prowadził orkiestrę grającą w hotelu Ambassador w Los Angeles.Nagrywał w tym czasie dla lokalnej wytwórni Nordskog,by po roku przenieść sie do Brunswick.Nagrania orkiestry to wysmakowane aranżacyjnie utwory taneczne.
Lyman ze swoją orkiestrą taneczną rozpoczął swoją karierę nagraniową dla Brunswick w lipcu 1923r utworami "Honey Babe" (2563), "California Blues" (2530), i "Bugle Call Rag" (2481).W 1929r orkiestra odbyła turnee po Europie występując minn. w Kit Cat Club i Palladium w Londynie , Moulin Rouge i Perroquet w Paryżu.W 1931r nagrała ścieżkę dżwiękową do serii filmów animowanych Merrie Melodies.
W 1933r przenosi się wraz ze swoja orkiestrą z Kalifornii do Nowego Jorku i tam regularnie występuje w radiowych show Accordiana i Waltz Time.Po skończeniu kontraktu z Brunswick nagrywa dla Decca,Bluebirds i w końcu RCA Victor.
Lyman zajmował się także komponowaniem;w 1923r skomponował "Peggy Dear" ,"Apple Sauce" i "I Cried For You".Dla Brunswick nagrał własne kompozycje-"Before You Go" i w 1926 "Mary Lou".
Popularny w 1924r utwór "Mandalay" napisał razem z Earlem Burtnettem i Gusem Arnheimem."What Can I Say After I Say I'm Sorry?" skomponował razem z Walterem Donaldsonem,a "Did You Mean It?" pochodzący z broadway'owskiego show A Night in Spain razem z Philem Bakerem i Sidem Silversem.Jego orkiestra występuje w 1930r w filmie Warner Brothers -Hold Everything.Mając 50 lat wycofuje się z działalności muzycznej zajmując się biznesem.Zmarł w Beverly Hills mając 60 lat.
