Pod tą nazwą wydali jeden singiel dla firmy Jamesa Sheltona,Daran.W tym czasie od grupy odchodzi Johnson.Następną płytkę "I' m so jealous" nagrywają dla filii wytwórni Mercury-Blue Rock.Wraz z nią następuje zmiana nazwy zespołu na Chi-lites.Dwa następne single wydane w 1965r nie przynoszą sukcesów na listach bestsellerów,stąd powrót do wytwórni Sheltona i lokalny hit "Pretty girl".
W tym czasie nawiązują kontakt z producentem Carlem Davisem,który zaczynał karierę w wytwórni Roosvelt i Wabash.Spodobały mu się kompozycje Eugena i załatwił im kontrakt nagraniowy w Dakar Records. Debiutancki singiel dla nowej wytwórni "Price of love" był początkiem ich prawdziwej kariery.
W końcu 1968 roku przenoszą się do Brunswick Rec i tam nagrywają pierwszy wielki przebój-"Give it away".Ich nagrania regularnie wchodzą na listy przebojów,co jest zasługą talentu kompozytorskiego Eugena i stabilności składu grupy,odkurzającej perfekcyjnie styl doo woop,dominujący w czarnej muzyce lat 50-tych w Ameryce.
Ich największe przeboje przynoszą wczesne lata 70-te w postaci "Have you seen her","Oh girl" czy "Give more power to the people".W 1976r zespół przeżywa trudne chwile,gdy ich macierzysta wytwórnia zostaje osądzona za malwersacje finansowe.Od zespołu do Warner Brothers odchodzi Eugene realizujący dla niej nagrania solowe.Marshall Thompson reorganizuje zespół,zostając jego liderem, i załatwiając kontrakt nagraniowy z Mercury.Ostatnim nagraniem Chi-lites ,które trafiło na listy przebojów był wydany w 1984 roku dla Chi-Sound Rec singiel "Gimme Whatcha got".
