Chipmunks

Fikcyjna grupa The Chipmunks to trzy postacie z filmów rysunkowych: Alvin, Theodore i Simon, stworzone przez Rossa Bagdasariana (ur. 27.01.1919 r. w Fresno w stanie Kalifornia, USA; zm. w styczniu 1972 r.), wszechstronnego wykonawcy, który jako David Seville zarejestrował na początku 1958 r. światowy przebój "Witch Doctor".

 W nagraniu tym Bagdasarian manipulował magnetofonem, odtwarzając normalnie śpiewany wokal od tyłu i z większą prędkością. Używając tej samej techniki, eksperymentował z dźwiękiem trzech zharmonizowanych głosów przy większej prędkości, co przypominało szczebiot wiewiórek ziemnych (ang. chipmunk). Singel "Witch Doctor" Bagdasarian nagrał dla wytwórni Liberty Records (wiewiórki nosiły imiona trzech członków zarządu tej firmy), która na Gwiazdkę 1958 r. wypuściła też "The Chipmunk Song". Piosenka ta doszła w USA do l. miejsca, a wydana zaraz po niej "Alvin's Harmonica" osiągnęła pozycję 3.

W sumie między 1958 a 1962 r. The Chipmunks umieścili na listach w USA piętnaście piosenek. Działali jeszcze długo w latach 60. nagrywając m.in. album z piosenkami Beatlesów. Bagdasarian zmarł w styczniu 1972 r., ale The Chipmunks odrodzili się w latach 80. za sprawą jego syna Rossa Bagdasariana Juniora i jego partnerki Janice Karmen. Tym razem grupa nagrała albumy z muzyką... punk, country i współczesnym rockiem.
