Tommy Roe

 Ur. 9.05. 1942 r. w Atlancie w stanie Georgia, USA. Swoją wokalną karierę rozpoczął jeszcze w szkolnym zespole o nazwie The Satins, który miał w repertuarze kilka jego kompozycji, m. in. piosenkę "Sheila" nagraną w 1960 r. Singel nie odniósł jednak znaczącego sukcesu. Roe nagrał "Sheilę" ponownie 2 lata późnej po podpisaniu kontraktu solowego. Ten klasyczny, rockowy utwór inspirowany stylem Buddy'ego Holly dotarł na szczyt amerykańskiej listy bestsellerów, a w Wielkiej Brytanii, gdzie artysta też cieszył się dużą popularnością, znalazł się w Top 3.

 

W 1963 r. Roe opublikował dwa single, które dotarły do Top 10: "The Folk Singer" i "Everybody". Kolejny, "Sweet Pea", także uplasował się w pierwszej dziesiątce i często gościł na antenie pirackich rozgłośni radiowych. Jego następca "Hooray For Hazel" zyskał podobną lokatę na liście bestsellerów. Największym jednak hitem była piosenka "Dizzy", która w 1969 r. osiągnęła szczyt zestawień po obu stronach Atlantyku.
 

Wokalista opublikował jeszcze dwa udane single "Heather Honey" i "Jam Up Jelly Tight", by w latach 70-tych skoncentrować się na karierze o lokalnym zasięgu, obejmującej występy w rodzinnym stanie. Roe pojawił się później z utworami "Energy" i "Full Bloom", ale nie zyskały one zbyt wysokich notowań. Echa dawnych sukcesów powróciły, kiedy utwór "Dizzy" w 1991 r. ponownie znalazł się na szczycie brytyjskich bestsellerów w wykonaniu zespołu The Wonder Stuff i aktora komediowego Vica Reevesa.
