Donośny baryton Medleya w połączeniu z wysokim tenorem Hatfielda
tworzyły charakterystyczne brzmienie duetu, który zadebiutował serią
znakomitych rhythm'n'bluesowych singli, wśród których znalazła się m.in.
piosenka "Little Latin Lupe Lu".
Nieco później słynny producent Phil Spector, właściciel wytwórni Philles, podpisał z nimi kontrakt, a pierwszym efektem współpracy z duetem był przebój "You've Lost That Loving Feeling"
- numer l amerykańskiej listy bestsellerów, do dziś uważany za jeden z
najlepszych singli w historii muzyki pop. Podobny sukces odniosły dwa
kolejne: "Just Once In My Life" i "Ebb Tide", lecz konflikty między duetem a producentem spowodowały nieoczekiwane odejście Righteous Brothers z wytwórni w 1966 r.
Pomimo otrzymania "złotej płyty" za kompozycję "(You're My) Soul And Inspiration",
The Righteous
Brothers rozstali się w 1968 r. Medley poświęcił się karierze solowej, a
Hatfield z nowym partnerem Jimmym Walkerem (przedtem członkiem The Knickerbockers)
kontynuował działalność pod tą samą nazwą. Ich współpraca nie trwała
jednak długo. W 1974 r. oryginalny skład duetu reaktywował się i wziął
udział w nagraniu albumu Sonny And Cher Comedy Hour.
W 1987 r. Medley odniósł światowy sukces piosenką "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life", wykonywaną w duecie z Jennifer Warnes i pochodzącą z filmu "Dirty Dancing". W 1990 r.
