wnukowi o życiu kowbojów i pracy wędrownej trupy.
Z wojska
wyszedł w 1947r i powrócił do rodzinnego miasta, tam zaczął amatorsko
śpiewać w klubach i radio.
Robbins.
W 1951r podpisał kontrakt fonograficzny z Columbia Records i nagrał swojego pierwszego singla "Love me or leave me alone".Dopiero
trzecia piosenka została zauważona i niespodziewanie weszła na szczyt
listy przebojów w 1953r.Ten sukces pomógł mu zdobyć zaproszenie do
udziału w programie Grand Ole Opry. Podpisał także umowę wydawniczą z
Acuff-Rose Publishers.
W następnych latach regularnie umieszczał swoje piosenki na liście bestsellerów, a były to m.in. I Couldn't Keep form Crying, Call Me Up (And I'll Come Calling on You), That's All Right Mama, Maybelline oraz Singing the Blues; ta ostatnia piosenka uczyniła z niego gwiazdę. W 1957r nawiązał współpracę z Rayem Conniffem i zaczął nagrywać bardziej nastrojowe piosenki. A White Sport Coat (And a Pink Carnation)
wysokie miejsca. The Story of My Life, Just Married, Stairway of Love, She Was Only Seventeen (He Was One Year More) podtrzymywały popularność, jednocześnie Robbins nagrywał piosenki w stylistyce rockabilly i płyty z muzyką hawajską.
Udanie prowadził także własne wydawnictwo fonograficzne i agencję
koncertową. Występował w westernach, pisał i śpiewał piosenki do nich.
Tonight Carmen, The Shoe Goes on the Other Foot Tonight, I Walk Alone, It's a Sin)
My Woman, My Woman, My Wife otrzymał nagrodę Grammy, a w 1976/77 jego nowe utwory - El Paso City oraz Among My Souuenirs - osiągnęły pierwsze miejsca na liście przebojów country.
W latach 70. regularnie koncertował w Europie, Australii i Japonii,
stając się ambasadorem muzyki country. Pod koniec dekady ograniczył
liczbę koncertów do 80 rocznie.
W październiku 1982r został wybrany w poczet Country Music Hall of Fame, a dwa mięsiące później zmarł w wyniku powikłań po kolejnym ataku serca.
