Ash

Tim Wheeler i Mark Hamilton, koledzy ze szkolnej ławy założyly swój pierwszy zespół w w wieku zaledwie 12 lat. Latwo się jednak domyślić, że to nie wtedy rozpoczęła się poważna historia zespołu. Tak naprawdę pierwsza wersja Ash narodziła się... zaledwie trzy lata póżniej, w 1992 roku, gdy do Tima i Marka dołączył o dwa lata starszy Rick McMurray (grał i nadal gra na perkusji) .
Latem tego roku zespół dał wiele koncertów, a Tim wciąż cieszył się nieustającym natchnieniem - wtedy właśnie powstało większość piosenek, które miały w przyszłości ukazać sie na mini-albumie Trailer. Niestety, postepując dość krótkowzrocznie, chłopcy nie wysyłali swoich nagrań do zbyt wielu wytwórni. Dlatego też być może nigdy nie mielibyśmy nawet okazji poznać tego zespołu, gdyby w 1994 roku wytwórnia La La Land Records nie zdecydowała się wydać singla Jack Names The Planets. Został on dość dobrze przyjęty i już wkrótce wytwórnia Infectious Records wydała nagrany przez Ash w czasie letnich wakacji album Trailer.
W 1996 roku przyszedł czas na prawdziwy przełom, kiedy wydano tym razem długogrający album '1977', poprzedzony kilkoma świetnie sprzedającymi się singlami jak Girl From Mars i Kung Fu. Był relatywnie sporym hitem w Wielkiej Brytanii, jednak nie odniósł spodziewanego wielkiego sukcesu w Stanach Zjednoczonych.
Mimo to, w 1997 roku, poproszenie przez reżysera Danny'ego Boyle'a, fana Ash, nagrali piosenkę A Life Less Ordinary do filmu o tym samym tytule (w roli głównej Ewan McGregor). W tym czasie do zespołu dołączyła Charlotte Hatherley (wówczas osiemnastoletnia). Podczas nagrywania kolejnej, wydanej w 1998 roku płycie, Nu-clear Sounds (poprzedzonej jeszcze wydanej materiału nagranego na żywo w Australii na płycie Live At The Wireless), była już pełnoprawnym członkiem grupy. Ten właśnie album, znacznie dojrzalszy niż poprzednie, okazał się mniej 'lekkostrawny' dla odbiorców i nie zdobył dużego uznania.
Po trzech latach przerwy Ash wrócił na scenę muzycznę z nowym albumem Free All Angels. Stanowi on niejako połączenie '1977' i Nu-clear Sounds - jest zarazem świeży i radosny jak ten pierwszy album i na wyższym intelektualnie poziomie - jak ten drugi.
