Meteor Records

Meteor Records była wytwórnią R&B z siedzibą w Memphis, prowadzoną przez Lestera Bihari, jednego z braci Bihari, właściciela Modern Records w Los Angeles. Założona w 1952 roku, wytwórnia była odważnym eksperymentem mającym na celu poszerzenie bazy talentów, koncentrując się na podpisaniu i nagrywaniu talentów z regionu Południa poprzez lokalnie dostępne studia nagraniowe. 

Pierwsze wydawnictwo wytwórni, „I Believe” / „I Held My Baby Last Night” Elmore'a Jamesa z 1952 roku, było ich największym sukcesem. 

 

W 1956 było jasne, że rosnący rynek rock'n'rolla dla nastolatków nie kupuje bluesa z Południa. W 1957 Meteor Records wydało swoje ostatnie nagranie, a bracia Bihari skonsolidowali swoje wytwórnie w Los Angeles. Chociaż wytwórnia nie odniosła sukcesu ekonomicznego, był to innowacyjny wysiłek ze strony braci Bihari, aby poszerzyć bazę muzyczną. 

 

Elmore James był pierwszym artystą, który podpisał kontrakt z wytwórnią i nagrał pierwsze wydawnictwo, po którym nastąpiło „Round House Boogie” / „Kickin' The Blues Around” Bepa Browna.  Bihari licencjonował niektóre strony muzyka jazzowego Ala Smitha z Chance Records w 1953 roku.
