SAR Records

SAR Records to firma muzyczna założona przez legendę muzyki soul Sama Cooke'a w 1961 roku . Znaczenie „SAR” była kwestionowana; była wyjaśniana jako „Sam & Alex Records” (JW Alexander był biznesmenem, współpracownikiem i przyjacielem Cooke'a), a także jako „Sam, Alex i Roy Records” (Roy jest SR Crainem , mentorem Cooke'a z jego zespołu Soul Stirrers , a także jego  manager tour ).

W wytwórni nie było Cooke, ale raczej wszyscy artyści Cooke'a, tacy jak Soul Stirrers z Jimmie Outlerem i Johnnie Taylorem w roli głównej, The Valentinos (z Bobby Womackiem ), Billy Preston , Mel Carter , The Simms Twins , Johnnie Morisette , LC Cooke (młodszy brat Cooke'a), a także Johnnie Taylor jako solista.

Jednym z godnych uwagi wydań w SAR była oryginalna wersja utworu „ It's All Over Now ” autorstwa The Valentinos, który później został opublikowany przez Rolling Stones .

Wytwórnia miała być miejscem, w którym Sam Cooke mógłby poszerzyć swoje zdolności artystyczne jako autor/ producent, a także dać innym walczącym artystom afroamerykańskim miejsce do nagrywania podczas rasistowskich lat 60-tych. Cooke nagrał w tej wytwórni dwa utwory, które zostały wydane dopiero w 2001 roku: solowa strona jego gospelowej piosenki „That's Heaven to Me” i „Somewhere There a Girl” (świecka wersja „Somewhere There's a God” The Valentinos).

Wytwórnia została rozwiązana po śmierci Sama Cooke'a 11 grudnia 1964 roku .
