Rick Springfield

Właśc. Richard Springthorpe, ur. 23.08.1949 r. w Sydney, Australia. Syn zawodowego wojskowego, muzyką zainteresował się podczas pobytu w Anglii na początku lat 60-tych. Po powrocie do Australii grał na gitarze i fortepianie w klubowym zespole w Melbourne. Z końcem dekady występował kolejno w grupach The Jordy Boys, Rock HSuse, The MPD Band i Zoot. Z tą ostatnią wylansował kilka przebojów, z których największą popularność zdobyła jego własna kompozycja „Speak To The Sky”.

W 1972 r. przeniósł się do USA, gdzie wytypowano go na nowego idola nastolatków. Nowa wersja „Speak To The Sky” trafiła do amerykańskiej Top 20, jednak dalszą karierę Springfielda zablokowały na dwa lata spory kontraktowe, rozstrzygnięte ostatecznie na korzyść wytwórni Chelsea Wesa Farella. Na albumie Wait For The Night piosenkarzowi towarzyszyli muzycy z sekcji rytmicznej Eltona Johna: Dee Murray (bas) i Nigel Olsson (perkusja).

Wkrótce po nagraniu płyty firma zbankrutowała, a Springfield zadebiutował jako aktor telewizyjny. Wystąpił w epizodycznych rolach w filmach „The Rockford Files”, „Wonder Woman” i „The Six Million Dollar Man” oraz w roli głównej w serialu „General Hospital”. Ekranowa popularność zaowocowała kontraktem z wytwórnią RCA i singlowymi przebojami z lat 1980-1982: „Jessie’s Girl”, „I’ve Done Everything For You”, „Don’t Talk To Strangers”.

W 1984 r. wystąpił w roli gwiazdy rocka w filmie „Hard To Hold” („Trudno zatrzymać” - reż. Larry Peerce), z którego pochodził popularny przebój „To Love Somebody”. W 1985 r. na listy przebojów trafiła  reedycja tematu „Bruce” z 1978 r., opisującego skutki pomylenia wykonawcy z Bruce’em Springsteenem. Późniejsze albumy wokalisty cieszyły się jednakową popularnością w Anglii i w USA.
