Bert Kalmar

Bert Kalmar (ur. 10 lutego 1884r - zm. 18 września 1947r) był amerykańskim autorem tekstów, który został wprowadzony do Songwriters Hall of Fame w 1970 roku.

Kalmar, pochodzący z Nowego Jorku , rzucił szkołę w młodym wieku i zaczął pracować w wodewilu . Pojawił się na scenie jako iluzjonista, komik i tancerz, po czym zaczął pisać piosenki po kontuzji kolana, która zakończyła jego karierę. W tym czasie zarobił wystarczająco dużo, aby założyć wydawnictwo muzyczne Kalmar and Puck, w którym współpracował z wieloma autorami tekstów, w tym z Harrym Puckiem (1891–1964) i Harrym Rubym . Wydawnictwo działało również pod nazwą Kalmar, Puck, Abrahams, Consolidated, Inc., drugim wymienionym partnerem był Maurice Abrahams (1883–1931).

W 1918 roku Kalmar i Ruby utworzyli stały zespół kompozytorów. Razem napisali ścieżkę dźwiękową do scenicznej produkcji braci Marx Animal Crackers (1928) i późniejszej wersji filmowej . Ich piosenki znalazły się także w filmach braci Marx Horse Feathers (1932) i Duck Soup (1933). Współpraca Kalmara z Ruby została przedstawiona w musicalu Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer z 1950 roku Three Little Words , w którym wystąpili Fred Astaire i Red Skelton . Kalmar od czasu do czasu współpracował jednak z Oscarem Hammersteinem II, Ted Snyder i inni autorzy piosenek.
Bert Kalmar był żonaty z Jessie Brown, z którą miał dwoje dzieci. Para rozwiodła się później.

Zmarł w Los Angeles w Kalifornii i został pochowany na cmentarzu Forest Lawn w Glendale w Kalifornii .
