Mack Gordon

Mack Gordon (urodzony jako Morris Gittler ; 21 czerwca 1904 r. - zm. 28 lutego 1959 r.)  był amerykańskim kompozytorem i autorem tekstów piosenek na scenę i do filmu . Został nominowany za najlepszą oryginalną piosenkę do Oscara dziewięć razy w ciągu jedenastu lat, w tym pięć kolejnych lat między 1940 a 1944 rokiem, a raz zdobył nagrodę za „ Never Never Know ”.  Ta piosenka okazała się jedną z jego najtrwalszych i do dziś jest popularna w filmach i reklamach telewizyjnych. „ At Last ” to kolejna z jego najbardziej znanych piosenek.

Gordon urodził się w Warszawie , wówczas jako część Imperium Rosyjskiego i jako dziecko przeprowadził się do Nowego Jorku. Występował jako wodewilowy aktor i piosenkarz na przełomie lat 20. i 30-tych XX wieku, ale jego talent do pisania piosenek był zawsze najważniejszy. Nawiązał współpracę z angielskim pianistą Harrym Revelem, która trwała przez lata 30-te XX wieku. W latach 40-tych współpracował z szeregiem innych kompozytorów, w tym z Harrym Warrenem .

Utwory Gordona zostały wykorzystane na ścieżce dźwiękowej ponad 100 filmów, Gordon pisał specjalnie dla co najmniej 50 z nich. Jego katalog zawiera ponad 120 piosenek śpiewanych przez najbardziej znanych i utalentowanych wykonawców na świecie, takich jak Frank Sinatra , Nat King Cole , Dean Martin , Sammy Davis, Jr. , Etta James , Glenn Miller , Barbra Streisand , Mel Tormé , Christina Aguilera i wielu innych. Jego bliska przyjaźń z wieloma jego artystami (takimi jak Frank Sinatra i The Rat Pack)), a jego umiejętność pisania ponadczasowych tekstów pozwoliła mu stać się jednym z najbardziej znanych członków świata muzyki i legendarnym autorem tekstów.   Nie jest więc zaskoczeniem, że jego wystawa w Songwriters Hall of Fame mówi, że „jest prawdopodobnie jednym z najbardziej udanych autorów tekstów w filmie”.
