Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band

Ur. 6.05.1945 r. w Detroit w stanie Michigan. Swoją bogatą karierę muzyczną rozpoczął na początku lat 60, jako członek zespołu The Decibels. Wkrótce potem dołączył jako organista do Douga Browna i grupy The Omens, lecz po objawieniu talentów twórczo-wokalnych zaczął spełniać właśnie tę rolę.

Formacja zadebiutowała pod szyldem The Beach Bums, nagrywając "The Ballad Of The Yellow Beret" — pastisz przeboju Barry'ego Sadlera "The Ballad Of The Green Beret". W obliczu groźby procesu sądowego nagranie zostało wycofane z rozpowszechniania. Zespół zmienił potem nazwę na Bob Seger and The Last Heard i zarejestrował kilka bardzo udanych singli, m.in. "East Side Story" (z 1966 r.) i "Heavy Music" (z 1967 r.).

W 1968 r. Seger podpisał kontrakt z Capitol Records, a jego nowy zespół The Bob Seger System, w tym samym roku zanotował na swoim koncie przebój z Top 20 amerykańskiej listy przebojów, "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man". Drugi album grupy Noah cieszył się już dużo mniejszym powodzeniem. W tej sytuacji liderpostanowił podziękować kolegom za współpracę i poświęcić najbliższe miesiące studiom. Jednak już w 1970 r. powrócił bardzo dobrym longplayem Mongrel zarejestrowanym z zupełnie nowymi muzykami. Rok później nagrał akustyczną płytę Brand New Morning i na wiązał krótkotrwałą współpracę z formacją STK. Równocześnie zakończył swój związek z wytwórnią Capitol i założył wraz z menedżerem Punchem Andrewsem własną — Palladium Records. Zadebiutował w niej średnio udanym albumem Smokin' O.P.'s. Również kolejne dwie płyty nie przyniosły mu sukcesu, choć singel "Get Out Of Denver" z longplaya Seven/ Contrast cieszył się sporym powodzeniem i stał się popularnym tematem, nagrywanym później przez innych wykonawców.

Zasłużony sukces komercyjny Seger odniósł jednak dopiero po powrocie do wytwórni Capitol, kiedy wydany jej nakładem album Beautiful Loser otarł się o dolne rejony zestawień amerykańskich bestsellerów. Stojąc teraz na czele zespołu The Silver Bullet Band grającego w składzie: Drew Abbott (gitara), Robyn Robbins (instr. klawiszowe), Alto Reed (saksofon), Chris Campbell (bas) i Charlie Allen Martin (perkusja), Seger umocnił swoją zdobywaną dzięki udanym koncertom popularność. Pomógł mu w tym doskonały album Live Bullet. W tym samym 1976 r. artysta zaprezentował longplay Night Moves, który stał się pierwszą w jego karierze "platynową płytą".

Utwór tytułowy z tego wydawnictwa trafił w 1977 r. do Top 5 amerykańskiej listy przebojów, a sukces ten powtórzyła rok później kompozycja "Still The Same". Pochodziła ona z potrójnie "platynowego" albumu Stranger In Town, na którym zamieszczono również takie utwory jak m.in. "Hollywood Nights", "Old Time Rock'N'Roll" i "We've Got Tonight". Łącząc nieco sentymentalne nastroje z tradycyjnym, opartym na rhythm and bluesie rockiem, album ten potwierdził zdolności Segera do wyrażania odczuć przeciętnych mieszkańców Ameryki, z którymi spotykał się na coraz liczniejszych koncertach.

Longplay Against The Wind trafił na szczyt amerykańskich zestawień albumowych, a koncertowe wydawnictwo Nine Tonight pozwolił artyście naładować nieco wyczerpane ciężką pracą twórcze akumulatory. Longplay The Distance, który dotarł do 5. miejsca notowań, powstał przy współpracy Jimmy'ego Iovine'a. Mimo że w Stanach Zjednoczonych Seger należy do grona najwybitniejszych artystów, w Wielkiej Brytanii udało mu się zdobyć popularność ograniczającą się jedynie do wąskiego grona najbardziej zagorzałych wielbicieli jego talentu.

Wśród jego ostatnich przebojowych singli wyróżnił się bez wątpienia utwór Rodneya Crowella "Shame On The Moon" (z 1983 r.), "Old Time Rock'n'Roll" (pochodzący z filmu "Risky Business"), "Understanding" (z filmu "Teachers") i przebój numer 1. "Shakedown" ze ścieżki dźwiękowej filmu "Gliniarz z Beverly Hilis II". Swój pierwszy od pięciu lat album studyjny Seger wydał w 1991 r. Jego współproducentem był Don Was, a fakt, że longplay ten dotarł do Top 10 amerykańskiej listy przebojów po raz kolejny udowodnił, że artysta cieszy się w swoim kraju niesłabnącą popularnością. Na kolejne studyjne dzieło znów kazał czekać prawie 5 lat. Pod koniec 1995 r. ukazał się album It's A Mystery promowany singlem "Lock And Load".
