Collective Soul

COLLECTIVE SOUL, grupa amerykańska. Powstała w 1990 w Stockbridge w Georgii, utworzona przez Eda Rolanda -voc, g, k, który studiował grę na gitarze w Berklee School of Music w Bostonie. Nazwę wzięła z powieści Ayn Rand Atlas Shrugged. W 1992 się rozsypała, ale po roku wznowiła działalność. W składzie oprócz lidera oraz Shane'a Evansa -dr, perc, który również występował w niej już wcześniej, znaleźli się sami nowi muzycy: Dean Roland - g, Ross Childress -g i Will Turpin - b, perc. W 1993, po kilku latach niepowodzeń, podpisała kontrakt z wytwórnią Atlantic. Sukces odniosła singlem Shine/Shine (remiks) z kwietnia 1994, a wypromować go pomógł występ na festiwalu Woodstock '94. W późniejszych latach ugruntowała swoją pozycję takimi płytami, jak single December/Where The River Flows z maja 1995 i The World I Know/When The Water Falls z grudnia tego roku oraz albumy "Hints, Allegiations And Things Left Unsaid" z września 1994, "Collective Soul" z marca 1995, "Disciplined Breakdown" z marca 1997 i "Dosage" z wiosny 1999.
Przedstawiła na nich wysmakowany, kunsztowny melodycznie, wybornie opracowany repertuar z pogranicza rocka, niekiedy bardzo ostrego, bliskiego wręcz grunge'u, oraz różnych odmian muzyki pop, np. Shine, Gel, December, The World I Know, Untitled, She Gathers Rain, Precious Dedaration, Listen, Tremble For My Beloved, Heavy, No More No Less, Dany Life, Run, Not The One. Promowała swoje dokonania m.in. na wspólnych koncertach z zespołem Van Halen.
Dyskografię uzupełnia m.in. nagranie Jealous Guy na płycie "Working Class Hero - A Tribute To John Lennon" (Hollywood, 1995) z piosenkami w różnych wykonaniach.
