Sammy Cahn (ur. 18.06.1913r w Nowym Jorku;zm.15.01.1993 Los Angeles).Librecista współpracujący z takimi kompozytorami jak Jule Styne w latach 40-tych i Jimmy Van Heusen w latach 50-tych ,a także ze znanymi twórcami musicali jak-Nicholas Brodszky; Alfred Newman; Victor Young i George Barrie . W okresie 33 lat osiągnął 26 nominacji do Oscara.
Rodzice Cahna byli emigrantami z Galicji w Polsce,a on sam dorastał w Nowym Jorku na East Side.Jego matka zachęcała go do nauki gry na skrzypcach i młody skrzypek grywał w lokalnych zespołach .Niedługo po tym zaczyna pracować przy aranżacji burlesek w teatrze.Mając 16 lat napisał swoją pierwszą piosenkę "Like Niagara Falls, I'm Falling For You" z muzyką swojego kolegi z orkiestry Saula Chaplina.Ci dwaj sformowali autorski duet ,którego owocem był minn. utwór "Shake Your Head From Side To Side".
W 1935r Cahn ma swój pierwszy większy hit- "Rhythm Is Our Business",napisany dla Jimmy Lunceford Band . Razem ze swym partnerem w 1937r założyli zespół,i w tym samym roku opracowują żydowski song "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon", który w wykonaniu Andrews Sisters przyniósł im sławę. Ten sukces zaprowadził ich do filmowego studia Warner Bros w Hollywood ,gdzie w 1940r napisali muzykę do filmu 'Ladies Must Live'.Póżniej pracują w Universal i Columbia Pictures.W 1942r Cahn zaczyna współpracę z kompozytorem ,Jule Styne.Ich najpopularniejsze piosenki z tego okresu to: "I've Heard That Song Before", "I'll Walk Alone," "I Should Care", "Saturday Night Is the Loneliest Night of the Week", "There Goes That Song Again", "Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are".Najpopularniejsze teksty Cahna w latach 50-tych i 60-tych-"Be My Love" z filmu 'Toast of New Orleans' w wykonaniu Mario Lanzy, "Because You're Mine","Three Coins in a Fountain","Teach Me Tonight".
W 1953r Jule Styne opuszcza Hollywood i Cahn rozpoczyna współpracę z Jimmy Van Heusenem.Ten nowy team zdobył trzy statuetki Oscara w ciągu 8 lat.Ich najbardziej znane piosenki to:[1955r]"Love and Marriage", "I'll Never Stop Loving You", "(Love is) The Tender Trap", [1956 ]"Written on the Wind", [1957 ]"All the Way"[Oscar], [1958] "To Love and Be Loved", hit for Nat 'King' Cole, [1959] "High Hopes" [Oscar], [1960] "The Second Time Around", [1961] "Pocket Full of Miracles", [1962] "Call Me Irresponsible" [Oscar], 1964 "My Kind of Town." hit Sinatry , "Where Has Love Gone". Jest członkiem Songwriter's Hall of Fame od 1972r.Zmarł w Nowym Jorku w 1995r.
