Ann Peebles

Ur. 27.04.1947 r. w East St. Louis w stanie Missouri. Przypadkowy występ w Rosewood Club w Memphis doprowadził do podpisania przez Ann kontraktu nagraniowego. Szef zespołu Gene Miller przedstawił młodą piosenkarkę producentowi Williemu Mitchellowi, który z wielkim talentem opracował debiutancki singel artystki "Walk Away" (z 1969 r.). Styl wokalny Ann nabrał pełniejszych barw w 1970 r. podczas pracy nad kolejną małą płytką, na której zamieszczono niezwykle interesującą interpretację utworu autorstwa Claya Hammonda "Part Time Love". Nadzieje wiązane z karierą wokalistki potwierdziły oryginalne utwory "Slipped Tripped And Fell In Love" (z 1972 r.) i "I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down" (z 1973 r.), nagrane później przez Paula Younga i Grahama Parkera.
Pełną dojrzałość zaprezentowała Peebles w doskonałym utworze "I Can't Stand The Rain", który zdefiniował brzmienie prezentowane przez wytwórnię Hi Records i zapewnił wykonawczyni nie przemijającą sławę. Donald Bryant, mąż Ann i utalentowany twórca piosenek, napisał ten klasyczny już utwór, jak również "99 Ibs" (z 1971 r.).
Późniejsze kompozycje "(You Keep Me) Hangin' On" i "Do I Need You" stały się również sporymi przebojami, ale ustalona od lat formuła zaczęła powoli ograniczać możliwości wokalistki i sprzedaż płyt Peebles znacznie zmalała.
