UB40

UB40 - zespół brytyjski. Powstał w 1978 w Birmingham. Jako nazwy użył symbolu karty zapomogowej dla bezrobotnych. Zadebiutował w miejscowym pubie The Horse And Hounds.
Najsłynniejszy skład: Alistair Campbell - voc, g, Robin Campbell - voc, g, Michael Virtue - k, Brian Travers - ts, as, Norman Lamount Hassan - tb. perc, Terrence "Astro" Wilson - tp, perc. voc, Earl Falconer - b, James Brown - dr. voc. Zespół, utworzony przez muzyków różnych narodowości, zwrócił uwagę słuchaczy w 1980 podczas koncertów z The PRETENDERS (wspólnie z Chrissie Hynde, wokalistką tej grupy, firmował Później przebojowe single - I Got You Babe w 1985 i Breakfast In Bed w 1988). Większość nagrań zrealizował dla własnej firmy płytowej Dep International. Na listach przebojów umieścił wiele prostych, ale z biegiem lat coraz efektowniej aran żowanych piosenek opartych na rytmach reggae, np. King, Food For Thought, My Way Of Thinking, The Earth Dies Screaming, Don't Slow Down, One In Ten, Love Is All Is Alright, If It Happens Again, Don't Break My Heart, Sing Our Own Song, Rat In Me Kitchen (nagrana z towarzyszeniem trębacza Herba Alperta), Maybe Tomorrow, Reckless (z AFRIKA BAMBAATAA), Homely Girl, Kingston Town , The Way You Do The Things.
Zaproponował też nowe wersje znanych utworów, m.in. I Think It's Going To Rain Today Randy'ego NEWMANA, Red Red Wine Neila DIAMONDA, Please Don't Make Me Cry Winstona Tuckera, Cherry Oh Baby Erica Donaldsona, Many Rivers To Cross Jimmy'ego CLIFFA i I'll Be Your Baby Tonight Boba DYLANA (razem z Robertem PALMEREM).
Teksty jego piosenek dotyczyły takich tematów, jak brak pracy dla młodych w Wielkiej Brytanii (One In Ten), groźba zagłady nuklearnej (The Earth Dies Screaming), segregacja rasowa w Republice Południowej Afryki (Rat In Me Kitchen). W listopadzie 1987 Earl Falconer spowodował wypadek samochodowy, w którym zginął jego brat Ray, współproducent nagrań UB40. Podczas odbywania przez Earla kary więzienia (w drugiej połowie 1988) zespół ograniczył działalność.
