W 1972 Rodriguez wprowadził swój singel „Pass Me By” na amerykańską listę country, a trzy następne: „You Always Come Back (To Hurting Me)”, „Riding My Thumb To Mexico" i „That’s The Way Love Goes") na jej szczyt. Kolejnymi przebojami były: „I Just Can't Get Her Out Of My Mind", „Just Get Up And Close The Door” i „Love Put A Song In My Heart”, a w 1977r wersja tematu Eagles „Desperado”.
W 1979 Rodriguez podpisał kontrakt z wytwórnią Epic, . dla której nagrał wraz z Charly McClain piosenkę „I Hate The Why I Love It”.
W 1988r podpisał kontrakt z Capitol Records (popularne w kręgu country tematy: „I Wanta Make Up With You”, „You Might Want to,Use Me Again”, „No Chance To Dance”, „Back To Stay", a zwłaszcza klasyczny szlagier „I Didn’t.(Every Chance I Had)’’.
Nagrany w 1994r album Run For The Border był rzutem na taśmę podobnie jak kilka nawiązujących do dawnej sławy nowych piosenek.
