Ronnie Laws

Ronald Wayne Laws (ur. 3 października 1950 r.) to amerykański saksofonista jazzowy
  i smooth jazzowy oraz wokalista. Jest młodszym bratem flecisty jazzowego Huberta Lawsa i wokalistki jazzowej Eloise Laws, a starszym bratem Debry Laws.

  Urodzony i wychowany w Houston w Teksasie w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Laws jest piątym z ośmiorga dzieci. Zaczął grać na saksofonie w wieku 11 lat. Uczęszczał przez dwa lata do Stephen F. Austin State University w Nacogdoches w Teksasie. W 1971 roku Laws wyjechał do Los Angeles w Kalifornii, aby rozpocząć karierę muzyczną. Rozpoczął ją od występów z trębaczem Hugh Masekelą. W 1972 roku Laws dołączył do zespołu Earth, Wind & Fire, gdzie grał na saksofonie i flecie na ich albumie Last Days and Time. Po 18 miesiącach pracy z Earth, Wind and Fire postanowił zostać artystą solowym.

  W 1975 roku Laws wydał swój debiutancki album zatytułowany Pressure Sensitive w wytwórni Blue Note Records. Album osiągnął 25. miejsce na liście Billboard Top Soul Albums. W 1976 roku Laws wydał swój drugi album Fever. Album osiągnął 13. miejsce na liście Billboard Top Soul Albums. Jego trzeci album, Friends & Strangers, został wydany w 1977 roku przez United Artists Records. Album uzyskał status złotej płyty w USA od RIAA. Czwarty studyjny album Lawsa, zatytułowany Flame, został wydany we wrześniu 1978 roku przez United Artists Records. Album osiągnął 16. miejsce na liście Billboard Top Soul Albums. Jego kolejny album Every Generation został wydany w 1980 roku przez United Artists Records.Album osiągnął 4. miejsce na liście Billboard Top Soul Albums. 

 Laws wystąpił na albumie Huberta Lawsa z 1974 roku „In the Beginning” i był współproducentem jego albumu „Say It with Silence” z 1978 roku. Następnie wystąpił na albumie Huberta „Land of Passion” z 1979 roku, albumie Wayne’a Hendersona z 1978 roku „Living on a Dream”, albumie Crusaders z 1980 roku „Rhapsody and Blues” oraz albumie Debry Laws „Very Special” z 1981 roku. Później grał na saksofonie na albumie Ramseya Lewisa z 1983 roku „Les Fleurs”, albumie Sister Sledge z 1983 roku „Bet Cha Say That to All the Girls”, albumie Deniece Williams z 1984 roku „Let's Hear It for the Boy” oraz albumie Jeffa Lorbera z 1984 roku „In the Heat of the Night”. Laws wystąpił również na albumie Alphonse'a Mouzona z 1985 roku „The Sky Is the Limit” oraz na płycie „Early Spring” z 1988 roku. Laws wystąpił gościnnie na płycie „Forever and Ever” Howarda Hewetta z 1988 roku, albumie „Just Between Us and Earth” Normana Browna z 1992 roku oraz płycie „Millennium” Wind & Fire z 1993 roku.  

Wystąpił również na albumie „My Time Will Come” Huberta Lawsa z 1993 roku, albumie „Yours Faithfully” Rebbie Jackson z 1998 roku, albumie „Strut and the Crusaders” Kevina Toneya z 2001 roku oraz albumie koncertowym „Alive in South Africa” z 2006 roku. Laws pojawił się również na albumie Guru z 2007 roku „Guru's Jazzmatazz, Vol. 4: The Hip Hop Jazz Messenger: Back to the Future” oraz na płycie Briana Culbertsona z 2007 roku „Bringing Back The Funk”.

  Dziedzictwo Artyści tacy jak saksofonista jazzowy Boney James i gitarzysta jazzowy Norman Brown byli pod wpływem Lawsa.
