Ricky Van Shelton

Ur. 2.01.1952 w Grit nieopodal Lynchburga w stanie Wirginia (USA). Wychowany w religijnej rodzinie, stykał się z gospel od dziecka. Zainteresowanie muzyką country spowodowało częste podróże ze starszym bratem. Początkowo pracował jako stroiciel organów, ale jego narzeczona, Bettye, zachęciła go do kariery wokalnej i przeniesienia się do Nashville, gdzie w 1984 zatrudniła się w dziale kadr miejscowej firmy. Podczas występu w klubie Shelton został dostrzeżony przez realizatora nagrań Steve’a Buckinghama, który zaproponował mu studyjną sesję.

 Efektem były singlowe przeboje „Wild-Eyed Dream”, „Crimes Of Passions”, a zwłaszcza „Somebody Lied” z repertuaru Conway Twitty. Shelton pozostał wierny klasyce country (wersja „Life Turned Her Way That Way” Harlana Howarda wykonywana w tradycyjnym tempie cztery czwarte).

Sukcesem okazała się też interpretacja zapomnianego tematu Rogera Millera „Don’t We All Have The Right” i inne przeboje country z pierwszego albumu. Jako gwiazda country, Shelton przypomniał też „I’ll Leave This World Loving You” i „From A Jack To A King” Neda Millera i wylansował własną kompozycję „Living Proof”. Uważany za „twardziela z Południa" pieśniarz nie stroni od mniej oficjalnych nagrań. Nagrywał bożonarodzeniowe standardy, a także wykonywane w duetach z Brendą Lee i Dolly Parton masowo kupowane piosenki „Sweet Memories” i „Rockin’ Year”. Jego podporą jest małżonka, która postanowiła skończyć studia prawnicze, pod warunkiem, że on wyzbędzie się lęku przed podróżami samolotem. 

W 1992 Shelton nagrał dedykowany swoim rodzicom album Don’t Overlook Salvation, a po nim kilka nowych kompozycji na longplyau Greatest Hits Plus. Następnie wycofał się w cień, a jedynym przypomnieniem było „Still Got A Couple Of Good Years Left” cieszące się umiarkowaną popularnością na amerykańskch listach country w 1993r.
