Od samego początku Clooney bardzo dobrze wiedziała, jak interpretować teksty piosenek. To pomogło jej później znaleźć się w gronie najlepszych światowych artystów. Rosemary od zawsze zafascynowana była jazzem, mimo że czasami jej twórczość nieco odbiegała od tego gatunku.
W 1950 roku artystka podpisała kontrakt z wytwórnią Columbia i nagrała kilka utworów, które później stały się przebojami. Do nich należą m.in. "Youre Just in Love", "Beautiful Brown Eyes", "Half As Much", "Hey There" oraz "Come on-A My House" i "If Teardrops Were Pennies".
Clooney nagrała aż 13 utworów, które na początku lat 50. znajdowały się w zestawieniu Top 40. To właśnie wśród tych piosenek znalazły się duety artystki m.in. Guyem Mitchellem i Marleną Dietrich.
Kolejne lata to rockowa rewolucja, która sprawiła, że jazzowa artystka wolała zająć się rodziną. Wielki powrót nastąpił dopiero pod koniec lat 70. Clooney śpiewała z jeszcze większą siłą i pewnością. Nagrywała także dla wytwórni Concord. Do końca lat 90. Clooney wykonywała standardy muzyczne, dzięki czemu zaliczono ją do grona najlepszych jazzowych wokalistek Ameryki.
Rosemary Clooney zmarła 29 lutego 2002 roku.
