Billy Paul

Właśc. Paul Williams, ur. 1.12.1934 r. w Filadelfii w stanie Pennsylwania. Karierę wokalną rozpoczął już w latach 50-tych, śpiewając w klubach jazzowych; przez krótki czas współpracował również z formacją Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes. Przełomowym momentem tej współpracy było jednak spotkanie z producentem Kennym Gamble’em. Podpisawszy kontrakt z firmą Neptune, wokalista z powodzeniem nagrywał dla Philadelphia International. 

Jego wzbogacone o elementy jazzu interpretacje niezbyt pasowały do ulubionego przęz wytwórnię słodkiego brzmienia soul, lecz debiutanckie nagranie Paula, wielki przebój „Me And Mrs Jones” jakoś zmieściło się w lansowanej przez firmę konwencji. Niezwykły styl artysty wzbogacił tę konwencjonalną opowieść o zdradzie o subtelnie przekazane poczucie winy. Wśród dalszych propozycji wokalisty znalazły się: „Thanks For Saving My Life” (z 1974 r.), „Let’s Make A Baby” (z 1976 r.) i „Let’ Em In” (z 1977 r.). Ten ostatni utwór był adaptacją przeboju Paula McCartneya z odniesieniami do postaci i poglądów Martina Luthera Kinga. Artysta nadal nagrywa doskonałe płyty, lecz po raz ostatni pojawił się na listach przebojów w 1980 r. z kompozycją „You Are My Sweetness”.
