Sweethearts of the Rodeo

Siostry Janis i Kristine Oliver wychowały się w Kalifornii, poświęcając wiele czasu wspólnemu muzykowaniu. W 1973 założyły akustyczny duet o nazwie zaczerpniętej z albumu Byrds. W ich repertuarze dominował country rock, ale równie dobrze czuły się w klasyce gatunku. Po wyjściu za mąż występowały pod nowymi nazwiskami: Kristine Arnold i Janis Gili. Janis przeniosła się do Nashville z małżonkiem Vince’em Gillem, który z czasem stał się jednym z najciekawszych wykonawców „nowego country”. Zaprosiła do Nashville siostrę i po wygraniu prestiżowego konkursu młodych talentów obie zadebiutowały albumem Sweethearts Of The Rodeo.

Pochodzące z niego przebojowe single („Hey Don't Baby”) utorowały siostrom drogę do sławy. W rodzinnym duecie Kristine spełnia z reguły rolę pierwszej wokalistki, a Janis kompozytorki, choć repertuar obejmuje też cudze standardy („I Feel Fine”, „So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)"). Długa przerwa przed nagraniem albumu Sisters spowodowała pogłoski o konflikcie z Columbią, potwierdzone wydaniem późniejszych płyt przez Sugar Hill Records.
