Librecista amerykański,prawdziwe nazwisko Kalman Cohen.Rozpoczynał karierę sceniczną jako autor skeczy,zanim nie spróbował razem ze swoim przyjacielem a zarazem kompozytorem Bernie Lowe pisać piosenek.To właśnie oni razem z Appellem byli autorami standardu rockowego "Teddy Bear" ,który w wykonaniu Elvisa Presleya trafił do annałów muzyki rozrywkowej.Był też razem z Lowe założycielem wytwórni Cameo w 1956r.Zmarł w 2001r chorując przez dłuższy czas na chorobę Alzheimera.
