John Barry

John Barry (ur.3.11.1933 York/UK) - zdolny samouk, studiował... korespondencyjnie, grał na trąbce w orkiestrze wojskowej, szybko dał się poznać jako pomysłowy aranżer i niezły kompozytor kilku przebojów brytyjskiej muzyki rozrywkowej.
W latach sześćdziesiątych znany jako szef instrumentalnego combo The John Barry Seven i orkiestry, z których popularnością musieli liczyć się nawet The Shadows! (przeboje m.in. Hit and Miss i Walk Don 't Run w 1960, James Bond Theme w 1962 i The Persuaders w 1971 r.).
W 1962 r. debiutuje jako kompozytor muzyki filmowej -tytułem The Amorous Prawn oraz serią wspomnianych już, niezwykle popularnych filmów szpiegowskich o Jamesie Bondzie. Barry daje sobie doskonale radę również z filmem przygodowym, miłosnym, obyczajowym i science-fiction, czego dowodem jego muzyka do obrazów Garaż śmierci, Sposób na kobiety, Obława, Boom!, Nocny kowboj (w 1969 r. Grammy za najlepszą kompozycję instrumentalną), Mary Queen of Scots, Dzień szarańczy, Powrót Robin Hooda, King Kong, The Deep i The Black Hole. Za muzykę i temat tytułowy z Elzy z afrykańskiego buszu (1966) i muzykę do Lwa w zimie (1968) otrzymał nagrodę Akademii Filmowej. Najchętniej współpracuje z reżyserami: Jarrottem, Lesterem, Schlesingerem, Youngiem. Od 1970 r. mieszka i pracuje w Stanach Zjednoczonych.
