Jr Walker to pseudonim sceniczny saxofonisty Autry De Walta II urodzonego 14.06. 1942 roku w Blytheville/Arkansas.Będąc jeszcze nastolatkiem założył swoje pierwsze instrumentalne combo,Jumping Jack w składzie:

i przyjął swój sceniczny przydomek.
Póżniej gra w innych lokalnych jazzowych grupach takich jak:Billy Stix Nicks and The Rhythm Rockers,do tej grupy dołączył najpierw jako wokalista a następnie gitarzysta Willie Woods.To był trzon zespołu "Jr Walker All Stars"
W 1961r podpisał kontrakt z wytwórnią Moonglow na całą serię utworów instrumentalnych w których wiodącą rolę odgrywał oczywiście saxofon.W 1964 roku przechodzi do Motown,gdzie szlifował swój styl będący mieszanką rhytm' n' bluesa i soul rodem z Detroit,polegający na charakterystycznych powtarzanych riffach saxofonowych i wokale oparte na schemacie pytanie-odpowiedż.
Spółka autorsko-kompozytorska Holland-Dozier-Holland zachęciła go do nagrywania instrumentalnych wersji swoich hitów.
Pod koniec lat 60-tych nagrywa bardziej liryczne utwory,a po 1972 traci popularność i nagrywa tylko sporadycznie,minn.album "Hot shot" ,który był ukłonem w stronę disco,czy "Blow the house down" [1983]po jego powrocie do Motown z wytwórni Whitfield Rec.Wystąpił gościnnie w utworze Foreigner "Urgent".
