Maxi Priest

Właśc. Max Elliot, ur. 10.06 1962 w Lewisham w Londynie (Anglia). Imię nadała mu matka na pamiątkę swego idola Maxa Bygravesa, a pseudonim przybrał po przejściu na rastafarianizm (od kapłana Lewiego, protoplasty jednego z dwunastu pokoleń Izraela). Na scenę muzyczną wkroczył jako konstruktor systemów nagłośnieniowych. Podczas tras koncertowych z Saxon International poznał m.in. Petera Kinga, Phillipa Leviego, Smileya Culture i Ashera Senatora. Jako "śpiewający DJ" Priest zyskał sobie grono fanatycznych słuchaczy. Szybko wzbogacił swoje brzmienie o soul, co zwróciło nań uwagę producenta Paula Robinsona (pseud. Barry Boom), czego efektem longplay You're Safe.
W latach 1986-87 wylansował liczne przeboje ("Strollin' On", "In The Springtine", "Crazy Love") oraz mniej udaną wersję "Some Guys Have All The Luck" Roberta Palmera. Największym sukcesem była wersja "Wild World" Cata Stevensa z 1988, nawiązująca jednak bardziej do interpretacji reggae Jimmy'ego Cliffa. Powodzeniem cieszyły się też "Close To You", "Peace Throughout The World" i "Human Work Of Art". Longplay Bona Fide z 1990 nagrał z udziałem grupy Soul II Soul zawdzięczającej wiele jego nastrojowej, intymnej wokalizie.
