Ciężko ustalić jeden moment, który stał się trampoliną dla Mumfordów. Należy wskazać chyba konsekwencje i setki koncertów, czyli prawdziwą pracę u podstaw, która przyniosła niespotykane efekty.
Debiutancki album „Sigh No More” został nagrany na wypożyczonych instrumentach i wyprodukowany przez Markusa Dravsa, współpracownika m.in. Coldplay i Arcade Fire. I choć po 30 miesiącach od premiery album nigdy nie znalazł się na 1 miejscu listy Billboardu i UK Top 40, sprzedał się na całym świecie w ponad 3 milionach egzemplarzy, największe nakłady generując właśnie na Wyspach i w USA. Nawet w ubiegłym roku był jedną z najchętniej kupowanych płyt z gatunku rock. W raz z sukcesem przyszły nagrody. BRIT Award 2011 dla najlepszej płyty było jedynie formalnością.
Zespół był także nominowany do 6 nagród Grammy. Aż 4 statuetki mogło zdobyć nagranie „Tha Cave” i mimo, że galę rozdania tych najcenniejszych nagród Mumford & Sons opuszczali z pustymi rękoma - Ameryka była ich. Młodym zespołom zza Atlantyku zdarza się to niezwykle rzadko. Nominacja „The Cave” nie do końca oddaje fenomen jakim jest grupa Mumford & Sons. Ich debiut to nie tylko zbiór znakomitych singli z „Little Lion Man” czy „Winter Winds” na czele. To płyta, którą miliony ludzi kupowały, by na własne uszy przekonać się, że to 48 minut jest idealną całością.
