Billy Ocean

OCEAN Billy (właśc. Leslie Sebastian Charles; 21.01.1950/ Fyzabad, Trynidad) - voc, k, g: kompozytor, autor tekstów.
Syn popularnego w Trynidadzie, ciemnoskórego wykonawcy muzyki calypso. W Londynie, dokąd rodzina przeniosła się w 1959, ukończył klasę fortepianu Camden School of Music.

Od 1967 występował z zespołami Shades Of Midnight, The Go i Dry Ice, a także śpiewał z orkiestrami rozrywkowymi Kena Macln-tosha i Mike'a Mortona.
Używając różnych pseudonimów estradowych, m.in. Joshua, Lee Charles i Byron James, nagrywał bez powodzenia dla firm Louvigny, Spark i Young Blood.

Pierwsze dowody uznania przyniosły mu single z piosenkami "Love Really Hurts Without You", "Love On Delivery", "Stop Me (If You've Heard It All Before)" i "Red Light Spells Danger", wydane w 1976 i 1977 przez GTO, firmowane już imieniem i nazwiskiem Billy Ocean.
Sukces światowy odniósł w połowie lat osiemdziesiątych. W swojej twórczości nawiązał zarówno do tradycji soulu, jak i muzyki wysp karaibskich.

Jego najbardziej udane przeboje dyskotekowe to Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run), Loverboy, Suddenly, When The Goings Gets Tough The Tough Get Going (z filmu Klejnot Nilu, 1985. rez. Lewis Teague), There'll Be Sad Songs To Make You Cry, Modern Woman (z filmu Ruthless People, 1986, rez. Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, Jerry Zucker), Love Zone, Love Is Forever, Get Outta My Dreams Get Into My Car i The Colour Of Love.
