Debiutuje singlem "You Don't Miss Your Water (Until Your Well Runs Dry)," wydanym dla wytwórni Stax w 1962 roku,który wszedł w dolne rejony Hot 100 Billboard.Jego pierwszy większy hit na rhytm' n' bluesowej liście bestsellerów to "Share What You Got," nagrany w 1966r [#27].Mimo znakomitych nagrań rzadko goszczą one w zestawieniach najlepiej sprzedawanych płyt.
Dopiero w 1977 roku

utworem "Tryin' To Love Two."
Pózniej zakłada własne wytwórnie płytowe Peachtree i Wilbe,którymi kieruje do dziś,sporadycznie nagrywając swoje płyty.
