Pointer Sisters

Zespół amerykański. Bonnie, June, Anita i Ruth Pointer, córki murzyńskiego pastora z Oakland w Kalifornii, od najmłodszych lat śpiewały w chórze kościelnym. W 1969 Bonnie i June utworzyły duet, wkrótce potem dołączyła Anita, a w 1972 także Ruth. Zespołem zaopiekował się David Rubinson, producent nagrań, były muzyk jazzowy. Zaprosił śpiewające siostry do udziału w nagraniach Elvina Bishopa, Boza SCAGGSA, Dave'a MASONA; zwrócił uwagę dziewczyn, zainteresowanych dotąd bluesem i muzyką soul, na dorobek wokalistów jazzowych - tria Lambert-Hendricks-Ross, Eddiego Jeffersona, Davida Allyna, Anity 0'Day. W rezultacie na płytach zespołu - oprócz Wang Dang Doodle Williego DIXONA, Yes We Can Can Allena Toussainta, Easy Days Isaaca HAYESA, Steppin' Stewego WONDERA czy też własnych kompozycji, np. Fairytale - znalazły się żywiołowe wersje jazzowych standardów: Straight No Chaser Theloniousa Monka, Cloudburst Benny'ego Harrisona, Little Pony Neala Heftiego, Charleston Alley Horace'a Hendersona i in.
Po odejściu w 1978 Bonnie - która jako solistka nagrała później płyty "Bonnie Pointer" (Motown, 1978), "Bonnie Pointer" (Motown, 1979) oraz "If The Price Is Right" (Private 1,1984) - zespół z powodzeniem zaprezentował się w rockowym repertuarze, wykonując m.in. Fire Bruce'a SPRINGSTEENA,, Dirty Work Waltera Beckera i Donalda Fagena, As I Come Of Age Stephena STILLSA, kompozycje Grahama PARKERA czy Boba SEGERA.
Na listach przebojów znalazły się w tym okresie takie nagrania The Pointer Sisters jak Fire, He's So Shy, Slow Hand, Should I Do It American Music, Automatic, Jump (For My Love), I' m So Excited, Neutron Dance i Dare Me. Siostry wystąpiły w filmie muzycznym Car Wash (1976, reż. Michael Schultz). June Pointer jako solistka nagrała płyty "Baby Sister" (Planet, 1983) i "June Pointer" (Columbia, 1989), a Anita - "Love For What It Is" (RCA, 1987).
